Cal Raleigh in Mariners’ day-after-clinch lineup

The Seattle Mariners clearly aren’t taking their foot off the gas after winning the American League West.

National media is calling for Cal Raleigh to win AL MVP

A day after clinching the division and the spirited celebration that followed, just about every regular is in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale with the Colorado Rockies, including new 60-home-run-club member Cal Raleigh at designated hitter.

Raleigh, who hit his 59th and 60th home runs on Wednesday, was originally slated to catch, but was moved to DH after the M’s clinched a top-two seed and first-round bye in the AL playoffs via a Detroit Tigers win over the Cleveland Guardians. He needs two home runs to tie Aaron Judge’s AL record of 62.

With Raleigh now at DH, Mitch Garver was inserted into the lineup at catcher. He’s batting eighth.

Garver’s addition caused over the shuffling as Jorge Polanco moved from DH to second base and Leo Rivas was pulled from the lineup.

Emerson Hancock will take the hill first for the Mariners during a bullpen day. He started 15 games in the majors this season before being converted to a bullpen role for the stretch run.

Right-hander Bryan Woo was originally slated to start Thursday but is being held out as he recovers from pectoral inflammation. Woo is day to day with his injury. The team has “zero plans” of placing him on the injured list, general manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday.

Seattle still has something to play for after clinching its division and a top-two seed. It has an outside shot of grabbing the No. 1 seed, which would require making up two games on both the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mariners wrap up their series with the Rockies on Thursday at 6:40 p.m. Radio coverage begins with the pregame show at 5:30 p.m. on KTTH 770 AM.
