Austin Jackson traded to Cubs for player to be named, signing slot

The Mariners have traded center fielder Austin Jackson to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later and an international signing slot, reports 710 ESPN Seattle's Shannon Drayer.

The Mariners have traded center fielder Austin Jackson to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later and an international signing slot worth about $211,000, reports 710 ESPN Seattle’s Shannon Drayer.

Jackson, who is set to become a free agent after this season, joined Seattle via trade from the Detroit Tigers in July 2014. The 28 year old is hitting .272 with eight home runs, 38 RBIs and 15 stolen bases on 24 attempts this year in 108 games. In August alone, he has a .314 average and .778 OPS.

His tenure with the Mariners was an up and down one. He had a .229 average and .527 OPS in 54 games with the team last season and had a three-week DL stint in May with an ankle injury.

Jackson is the second player to be traded from the M’s to the Cubs in less than a week; pitcher Fernando Rodney was shipped to Chicago on Aug. 27.
