Jerry Dipoto has filled the vacancy at first base. The Mariners have acquired left-handed hitting first baseman Adam Lind from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for a trio of 19-year-old minor league right-handed pitchers, Carlos Herrera, Daniel Missaki and Freddy Peralta.

“Adam lengthens our line-up as a first baseman who gives us on-base percentage and power,” Dipoto said in the press release. “First base was a spot we came here looking to fill, and we feel that Adam is a good fit for us.”

Originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2004 draft, Lind hit .272/.360/.460/.820 with 20 home runs and 87 RBIs last year for the Brewers leading the team in games, doubles, RBI and walks, while producing his fifth career season of 20 or more homers. He hit .336 with runners in scoring position and posted a 119 wRC+ and 3.1 WAR.

Although the price tags are similar, Lind and his .360 on-base percentage last year fits the Jerry Dipoto player mold better than Mark Trumbo, who was traded last week. The Trumbo trade also netted backup catcher Steve Clevenger.

To make room for Lind on the 40-man roster Adam Wilkins was DFA’d.
