Mariners-Yankees Lineups: No Josh Naylor for series opener

One of the Seattle Mariners’ hottest hitters is out of action as they begin a road trip Tuesday in New York.

Josh Naylor is out of the lineup against the Yankees, with Weston Wilson taking his place at first base. Mariners insider Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports reported Tuesday afternoon that Naylor has a sore right wrist, and the hope is that combining a rest day Tuesday with Monday’s day off will help him heal.

Naylor is hitting .324 with a .385 on-base percentage and .863 OPS over his last 19 games, which includes his 3-for-4 performance on Saturday where he homered twice, doubled and stole a base. On the season, Naylor is slashing .263/.328/.372 for a .700 OPS with 10 home runs, 17 doubles and 23 steals.

The Mariners have new right fielder Taylor Ward again in the leadoff spot Tuesday, with center fielder Julio Rodríguez moved back up to No. 3 in the order, catcher Cal Raleigh hitting sixth and recently returned third baseman Brendan Donovan hitting seventh. Rodríguez hit fifth for Seattle in each of the previous three games.

Bryan Woo (8-8, 4.31 ERA) will get the start for Seattle.

The Yankees have left-hander Ryan Weathers (5-7, 3.79 ERA) scheduled to start on the mound.
