The Seahawks kick off training camp on July 25, and until then, Brock and Salk will count down the top 25 most intriguing Seahawks every weekday at 8:30 a.m. Their list continues with No. 7: Defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

Listen to the full segment here, and check out the highlights below:

Quick look

• Entering his fourth season and the final year of his rookie deal.
• Had career-highs in sacks, tackles, and quarterback hits in 2018.
• Sidelined over OTAs after undergoing sports hernia surgery, but expected to return for training camp.

What Brock Huard is saying

“The day before we had Jarran Reed at No. 7 was the deadline for teams to reach an agreement on a long-term deal with franchise tagged players,” Brock Huard said. “A defensive tackle down there in Atlanta by the name of Grady Jarrett, who I think is very, very fair comp to Jarran Reed, has been a high-level player for a number of years and who’s actually four months younger than Reed even though he has one more year in the league. He was franchise tagged, and the Falcons were able to put a deal together for their stud D-tackle, who has a very similar game to Reed when you look at the sacks and the numbers and the pressures, and they did, they paid him $17 million per year. So Jarran, are you going to get your money? Is Lil Wayne’s Young Money agency, who represents you, and John Schneider and Matt Thomas going to get a deal done? That’s where I think so much of this intrigue is.

“Also, you look at this, and I’ve got to be honest with you: if I’m an objective observer that comes in as a consultant to Seattle and I look at Jarran Reed, I look at his first two years in the league and I see three-and-a-half sacks in two years combined. And then in 2018 in a quasi-contract year you blow up and have 10.5 sacks. Or maybe Michael Bennett and those guys left and there was a void to fill and you stepped in that void; you changed your body, you changed your game, you changed your mindset, you grew up, that light bulb went on and you became a totally different player in 2018. That’s to be rewarded, or intriguing enough to watch to see if 2019 can be like 2018.”
