UW Huskies’ Matisse Thybulle was named Pac-12 Player of the Week, a first for the senior guard, after a pair of stellar performances against Utah and Colorado.

UW Huskies at No. 25 in new AP poll

In a 62-45 win over the Utes Wednesday, Thybulle had 10 points, six steals, and four blocks. In a 64-55 win against the Buffaloes three days later, he finished with 17 points, six steals, and five blocks.

His latest performance helped to extend Washington’s record to 22-5, and kept the Huskies undefeated at home.

With his season-long performance, though, should Thybulle be in contention for Pac-12 Player of the Year? 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny, Dave and Moore weighed in during Monday’s show.

Dave Wyman

“Thybulle is just a complete player. You look at some of these numbers and you just think, how does he continue to get those steals? Shouldn’t teams be looking out for him and know what the deal is now with Matisse Thybulle? He’s one of two players going back to ’92, ’93 who have more than 90 steals and 60 blocks. When you see him, everyone once in a while he’ll break free and it looks so effortless.”

Danny O’Neil

“He is a smooth, smooth player. He’s Stacey Augmon. I think he’s a first-round pick. I think the way he plays, the basement, the absolute floor for him is like André Roberson, where he’s a wing defender on a team that has plenty of scoring. For an NBA team, he’s going to have to be a better shooter… but the type of player he is, I think he’s absolutely a first-round pick.”

Jim Moore

“He’s a guy that even a Coug can pull for. That play that he had against Colorado, when I think it was (Evan) Battey down there at the baseline who tried to pass it up top, and then Thybulle just broke it up and outraced McKinley (Wright) to the hoop and got the ball and dunked. It was just a terrific play, and we see that game in and game out from Thybulle.”
