Seahawks Insider: Oday Aboushi’s chemistry with Germain Ifedi keeps him in starting role

RENTON – It wasn’t just the way that Oday Aboushi played in Tennessee that means he’ll remain the starter at right guard this week.

It’s the way Aboushi played alongside right tackle Germain Ifedi that coach Pete Carroll pointed to first.

“He brought a communication level that I thought helped Germain,” Carroll said. “I thought they worked together really well.”

Aboushi entered the league with the New York Jets and most recently was with the Houston Texans. He signed this offseason with the Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent.

He competed with Mark Glowinski for the starting job at right guard during training camp. While Glowinski was tabbed as the starter entering the regular season, Seattle made a switch last week with Aboushi promoted to the starting lineup, leaving Glowinski among the seven Seahawk players who were inactive for the game.

Russell Wilson was sacked just once by the Titans, and Aboushi played a part in that improvement.

“He did a very nice job in pass protection,” Carroll said. “Covered up his guys. Had one or two rushes that he would want to have back, but just did a really consistent job and then the communication across the right side was really sharp and it just seemed to make us better.”
