Salk: Leonard Williams sets his path to being a Seahawks ROH member

I am unapologetically ecstatic to see the news that Leonard Williams signed a three-year extension with the Seahawks. He’ll be here for four more seasons, gets another $90 million, $56 million guaranteed – all of it deserved.

Leonard Williams is a tremendous football player. I think he’s one of the best players in the league. I am horrified and upset that he did not make the NFL’s Top 100 list. I was much more on the page of his peers who voted him into the No. 1 spot amongst defensive linemen.

It’s the versatility. It’s how good he is at each of the different things they ask him to do. It’s the leadership that has been completely on display during “Hard Knocks.” It’s the alpha. He is the guy. Heck, I was even impressed with what he did to Derick Hall in their little wrestling match. Derick Hall’s not a small dude and Leonard took him to the ground no problem.

I said this a couple of weeks ago and I’m not going to back off of it – I think this makes it even more of a possibility. I think Leonard Williams has a very good chance to be a Seahawks Ring of Honor player. Why not?

He is going to be the best player and certainly the leader of one of their best defenses of all-time. He was a captain – I know they don’t quite do it that way – but one of the best players and leaders on a Super Bowl team with an opportunity to maybe get another. And when it’s said and done, he’ll end up playing some six or seven years here in Seattle.

No, that’s not quite Cortez Kennedy’s 11, but considering when he came here in a career that had already started in New York with both the Jets and the Giants, he’s chosen now twice to stay here after being traded here.

He’s been a dominant player. He’s been one of the best in the league and he’s won at least one Super Bowl. I hope we’re talking about him as a Ring of Honor member before it’s all said and done.
