Snubbed? Just 1 Seahawks defender top 10 at position in Madden

The top 10 players at each defensive position for the upcoming Madden NFL 27 video game have been revealed, and it feels like something is missing – a whole bunch of Seattle Seahawks.

Seahawks rookie defensive tackle comes off PUP list

Only one member of the defense that helped lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title just over five months ago is ranked in the top 10 at their position. That player is Devon Witherspoon, who is the No. 6 ranked cornerback with a 91 overall rating.

The most obvious snub is defensive tackle Leonard Williams, who was ranked the No. 1 DT in the league earlier this month in ESPN’s annual position rankings, which is decided by a vote of NFL coaches, executives and scouts. With Williams not appearing in the Madden top 10, it means his rating will be no higher than an 89 overall when the game releases on Aug. 6 based on the revealed ratings of the top DTs.

Another notable Seahawks omission is second-year safety Nick Emmanwori, who was sixth at his position in the ESPN rankings. Emmanwori won’t crack 90 overall based on the revealed Madden safety ratings.

Seattle also has tackle Byron Murphy II, linebacker Ernest Jones IV and safety Julian Love as defenders worthy of consideration for top-10 rankings. Murphy was the first honorable mention at DT in the ESPN rankings, while Jones and Loves both received votes.

Despite being on the Madden top-10 list, Witherspoon is ranked lower by Madden than his No. 4 ranking in the ESPN cornerback rankings.

The snubs stand out considering the Seahawks’ defense led the NFL with just 17.2 points allowed per game and 3.7 rushing yards allowed per attempt in 2025. Seattle was also second with 4.6 yards allowed per play (just behind Denver’s 4.5) and 5.1 net yards allowed per pass attempt (Buffalo was first with 4.8).

The Seahawks’ offense at least got some recognition earlier this week when Madden revealed wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had joined the exclusive ’99 Club’ with a 99 overall rating after finishing with 1,793 receiving yards in 2025, which ranks eighth all-time for a single season in NFL history.
