Seahawks’ JSN, Darnold connect on their longest pass yet for TD

The incredible chemistry of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was on display in the second quarter Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

And, in fact, they topped themselves.

Darnold dropped a beauty of a throw into the hands of JSN, who made a spectacular catch – while shaking off a would-be tackler – for a 63-yard touchdown pass that moved the Seahawks into a 10-3 lead over the Titans.

It was the longest connection yet between Darnold and Smith-Njiga, who have been perhaps the most dynamic QB-receiver pairing in the NFL this year.

It was the biggest gain on a single catch in Smith-Njigba’s three-year pro career, as well.

Smith-Njigba’s previous career-long catch was a 61-yard touchdown pass from Darnold on Oct. 12 in a road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

JSN kept producing on Sunday, as he broke DK Metcalf’s Seahawks single-season franchise record from 2020 of 1,303 receiving yards – in just Seattle’s 11th game of the year.

Smith-Njigba entered Sunday with an NFL-leading 1,146 receiving yards, and he was the only player in the league already to reach the 1,000-yard mark.

JSN is in position to challenge the NFL single-season record of 1,964 receiving yards, set in 2012 by Detroit’s Calvin Johnson – albeit in 16 games as opposed to the current 17-game schedule.

In his first season with the Seahawks, Darnold entered Sunday ranking eighth in the NFL with 2,541 passing yards.
