Jaxon Smith-Njigba is having a season for the ages for the Seattle Seahawks.
The proof? JSN just broke the Seahawks franchise record for most receiving yards in a single season – and he did it in only the 11th game of the 17-game season, which was a 30-24 win in Tennessee.
Stacy’s takeaways from a narrow Seahawks win over Titans
With an eight-yard catch in the third quarter on Sunday against the Titans, Smith-Njigba moved to 1,309 receiving yards on the year. That eclipsed the previous record of 1,303 receiving yards by DK Metcalf in 2020.
The record-breaking catch by JSN gave him a season-high 163 yards on seven catches in the game. He finished with 167 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches, and was just 13 yards short of his career-high for a game (180).
JSN has proven to have a special connection with first-year Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, which was on display in the second quarter Sunday when they connected for a 63-yard touchdown. It was both the longest pass from Darnold to JSN this year, and a career-long reception for Smith-Njigba.

Early in the third quarter, Darnold hit JSN for a 56-yard pass, and two plays later found his favorite receiver in the end zone for a 13-yard TD. That left Smith-Njigba just two yards short of Metcalf’s record.

Entering Sunday, Smith-Njigba was the only player in the league with over 1,000 receiving yards, putting him in a commanding lead for No. 1 on the leaderboard. Following Sunday’s performance, he leads the NFL with 1,313 receiving yards this season.
JSN may have his sights set on an even more significant record this year. He could challenge the NFL single-season record of 1,964 receiving yards set in 2012 by Detroit’s Calvin Johnson. There is a caveat, though, which is that Johnson set the record when the NFL regular season was 16 games as opposed to the current 17-game schedule.
Notably, Smith-Njigba’s Seahawks teammate Cooper Kupp is currently second behind Johnson in the record books with his 2021 season of 1,947 yards while he was with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Seahawks drafted Smith-Njigba with the No. 20 overall NFL Draft pick out of Ohio State in 2023. He broke out in 2024 with 1,130 yards on 100 receptions, the latter of which tied a Seahawks record first set by Tyler Lockett in 2020. Smith-Njigba is now has 80 catches on the year, just 20 short of his own single-season franchise record.
