3 Mariners prospects named to All-Star Futures Game

Seattle Mariners outfield prospect Lazaro Montes, catcher prospect Harry Ford and switch-pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje were named to the American League’s 2025 All-Star Futures Game roster on Monday.

The Futures Game, an annual showcase of baseball’s top prospects, will take place July 12 at Truist Park in Atlanta as part of the All-Star Week festivities. The MLB All-Star Game is July 15.

The Mariners’ three Futures Game selections are tied with the Detroit Tigers for the most of any MLB organization.

Montes, who was promoted from High-A Everett to Double-A Arkansas last week, leads the entire minor leagues with 21 home runs across both levels this season. The 6-foot-5 lefty slugger already has three homers over his first six games with Arkansas, including a moonshot 475-foot blast on Friday night. Across both levels, the 20-year-old Montes is slashing .267/.388/.582 with a .970 OPS in 73 games.

Ford, a 2021 first-round pick, will return to his home state of Georgia for his third consecutive Futures Game. The athletic 22-year-old catcher is slashing .305/.418/.459 with eight homers and a .878 OPS in 61 games with Triple-A Tacoma. He was called up to the Mariners’ taxi squad last week after Seattle backup catcher Mitch Garver’s injury scare, but didn’t appear in a game for the M’s.

Cijntje, a 2024 first-round pick, is a baseball unicorn who pitches both right-handed and left-handed. The 22-year-old Curacao native has a 4.88 ERA in 51 2/3 innings with High-A Everett this season, with 58 strikeouts and 31 walks. He’s faced 180 batters as a right-handed pitcher, while posting a .165 opponents’ batting average with 52 strikeouts and 16 walks. He’s faced 42 batters as a lefty pitcher, while surrendering a .360 opponents’ batting average with six strikeouts and 15 walks.

All three players are top-100 prospects according to both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. MLB Pipeline ranks Montes at No. 30, Ford at No. 59 and Cijntje at No. 84. Baseball America ranks Montes at No. 52, Cijntje at No. 80 and Ford at No. 98.
