Rain is threatening Seattle Mariners’ upcoming games vs Twins
The Seattle Mariners' four-game series in Minnesota against the Twins may be interrupted with steady rain in the city expected to start Wednesday.

The Seattle Mariners have seemed to welcome going on the road this season, with a 20-18 record in away games entering Tuesday. But as we’ll see over the next couple of days, there is one benefit they get at home that isn’t always the case on road trips.
That, of course, would be a roof on the stadium.

And no, the Minnesota Twins’ Target Field in downtown Minneapolis does not have one, which figures to be an issue Wednesday and Thursday.
The M’s are currently in Minnesota for a four-game series, and both Wednesday’s 4:40 p.m. game and Thursday’s 10:10 a.m. finale are at risk of being rained out.
Per the hourly forecast on Weather.com, Minneapolis will begin to get rain at 6 a.m. Wednesday Central time (4 a.m. Pacific). Thunderstorms are forecasted for 11 a.m. and noon in the city, and rain is not expected to let up all the way through Thursday evening.
That could make for a big problem, because it may not only wipe out Wednesday’s game, but also any chance to make it up with a doubleheader Thursday before Seattle moves on to a three-game series starting Friday at Texas. So that means the Mariners and Twins could be scrambling to find a way to get not just one but two makeup games in later this season.
Making up potential postponements
The M’s and Twins would need to find a mutual day off in order to schedule a make-up doubleheader, and there are a few options that jump out.
The first is not all that far in the future. The Mariners will wrap up their next homestand on Sunday, July 6 against Pittsburgh, then are off the next day before starting a six-game road trip against the Yankees in New York on Tuesday, July 8. The Twins will also have that Monday, July 7 off in between home series against Tampa Bay and the Chicago Cubs. It wouldn’t be ideal for the Mariners, as it would mean a stretch of 14 games in 13 days, but at least the All-Star break starts right after that stretch would end.
The next mutual off day is Thursday, Aug. 18. The Twins would be heading back home from a road series at Toronto, while the M’s would be heading out on the road to Cleveland. But it would mean 14 games in a 13-day stretch for the Mariners, and a whopping 24 games in 23 days for the Twins.
A third option would be Monday, Sept. 22. The Twins would have to stay home an extra day before beginning a season-ending road trip in Texas, while the M’s would have to fly up from Houston before starting their final six-game homestand. It would mean 11 games in the last 10 days of the season for Minnesota, and 14 games in the last 13 days for the M’s.
The Mariners have not had a game rained out this season, but they did endure a roughly 90-minute rain delay on May 20 against the White Sox in Chicago. Seattle last had a game postponed on April 19, 2024 at Colorado due to snow, which was made up with a doubleheader the next day.
Mariners Radio Network coverage on Seattle Sports is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday with the pregame show. The pregame show will air so long as the upcoming game is not officially postponed to the next day before its scheduled time.
