The Seattle Mariners are still waiting on MRI results to learn the severity of the shoulder injury Victor Robles suffered Sunday afternoon against the Giants, but the right fielder is heading to the 10-day injured list in the meantime, general manager Justin Hollander told reporters Monday.
Seattle Mariners Observations: What stood out from series vs Giants
Robles had X-rays done on his shoulder at Oracle Park on Sunday, which came back negative. He was getting an MRI on Monday afternoon, Hollander said.
“We will know what timeline after the imaging,” Hollander said. “Everything else I would tell you would just be totally guessing, and I don’t think it’s super additive. So we’ll know more in the next 24, 36 hours.”
The right fielder was injured while jumping into the netting in foul territory at full speed to make a spectacular catch in the ninth inning of the series finale in San Francisco.
The Mariners recalled outfielder Dominic Canzone from Triple-A Tacoma to fill Robles’ spot on the 26-man roster. Canzone, who hit .196 with eight home runs in 67 big league games last season, was batting .276 with an .861 OPS and two home runs in eight games with the Rainiers.
Robles was listed as going on the injured list with a dislocated left shoulder.

Hollander also offered updates on several other injured or banged-up Mariners. Here’s a rundown of everything he said.
• Third baseman Jorge Polanco was out of the lineup for the final two games of Seattle’s series in San Francisco over the weekend with soreness in his side, not the left knee he had surgery on during the offseason. Hollander said the soreness stemmed from a swing in Friday’s series opener in San Francisco. The switch-hitter was back in the lineup for Monday’s tilt with Astros, batting second as the designated hitter. He’s hitting .450 with two home runs and a team-high eight RBIs in 20 at-bats this season.

“No knee concern beyond just us taking care of him and making sure we understand he did have offseason knee surgery,” Hollander said, “and he feels good today.”
Hollander added Polanco was already scheduled to have an off day Saturday, but manager Dan Wilson elected to give him an extra day Sunday due to the soreness.
• There’s no clear timetable for starter George Kirby to return at this point, but he “felt great” after throwing a bullpen session over the weekend. Kirby will throw two more bullpens this week and then begin a “spring training-type game progression.”
Kirby, who was shut down in spring training with shoulder inflammation, had previously expressed a desire to return by late April. Hollander called that timeline “optimistic,” but noted Kirby is hitting the benchmarks the team set for him.
“We’ll see how the two (bullpens) go this week and then start moving into game situations,” Hollander said. “I don’t think it will be like a full spring training ramp up because he was already kind of built to that point over the winter and in the early part of the spring. But he does need a real game progression. It’s not going to be throw two innings then come to the big leagues. We’ll be responsible and make sure we’re checking all the boxes, but he does feel great so far. We’re really encouraged.”
Hollander said Kirby will do some work in Arizona and would likely make his rehab appearances with Tacoma or High-A Everett, but weather could change those plans.
• Reliever Matt Brash is scheduled to throw a live batting practice at T-Mobile Park on Wednesday. The team will make a decision on whether or not Brash is ready for a rehab assignment after the session. The right-hander is working his way back from Tommy John surgery he underwent last May.
“I can’t tell you how long (the rehab assignment will be),” Hollander said. “It kind of depends on how he feels and what we see with our eyes, slash what the data says, but very likely to begin a rehab assignment end of this week, early next week with Tacoma at that point.”
• Reliever Troy Taylor began a rehab assignment with Tacoma on April 1 and will pitch again either Tuesday or Wednesday. The club will then assess if he’s ready to be activated to the big league roster.
The right-hander missed all of spring training with a lat strain. In two appearances with the Rainiers, he struck out two while allowing two runs on five hits over 1 2/3 innings.
“Very encouraged by what we’re seeing from Troy so far,” Hollander said. “He feels great after every outing, so we’ll see how it goes in the next outing.”
• Reliever Jackson Kowar is still on track to begin a rehab assignment in late April or early May. The right-hander is working his way back from having Tommy John surgery last March.
“Would anticipate that being a fairly lengthy (rehab stint) just given the length of time that he’s been out, but late May or early June projecting back in activation time,” Hollander said.
• Reliever Trevor Gott, who the M’s signed to a minor league deal in late February, has completed the bullpen portion of his rehab assignment and is scheduled to start live batting practices this week. Gott, who had Tommy John surgery last April, made 30 appearances for Seattle in 2023 before being traded to the Mets in July of that season.
