Video: Mariners’ Leonys Martin climbs wall to steal home run

Aug 30, 2016, 9:23 AM | Updated: 9:41 am

Mariners center fielder Leonys Martin did his best Ken Griffey Jr. impression during the seventh inning of Monday’s 6-3 loss to the Rangers, scaling the wall in Globe Life Park to steal a home run from Ian Desmond.

As noted in the video above, Martin covered more than 98 feet and hit a max speed of 19.4 mph during the play, according to Statcast.

The 28-year-old has played Gold Glove caliber defense in his first season in Seattle, with three errors and 11 outfield assists. Martin’s defensive WAR (Wins Against Replacement) was among the top 10 the past two seasons.
