Seahawks injury notes: Moffitt to have elbow surgery

The Seahawks did a padless walkthrough practice this morning before their first preseason game tomorrow night. Afterward, coach Pete Carroll shared some injury news with the media.

John Moffitt has some loose bodies or bone chips in his left elbow, and Carroll says the second-year guard will have surgery right away and could be out for two to three weeks. Moffitt started nine games his rookie campaign before a knee injury ended his season in November. Duece Lutui will start in Moffitt’s spot Saturday against visiting Tennessee. Rookie J.R. Sweezy could also see action, according to Carroll.

Several receivers will not play in the preseason game at CenturyLink Field. Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette have not practiced this week due to injuries. Sidney Rice is still recovering from shoulder surgeries. Terrell Owens has not been with the team long enough.

Carroll admits the team broke an NFL rule by having Owens in pads too soon after signing his contract. Carroll didn’t seem too concerned about possible league penalties for the violation.

Marshawn Lynch will not run the football much Saturday night. Carroll plans to give rookie Robert Turbin lots of action. Matt Flynn starts at quarterback in the first half with rookie Russell Wilson used in the second. Carroll would not say whether he plans to give Tarvaris Jackson or Josh Portis any snaps.
