Seahawks staying mum on Percy Harvin’s status

RENTON – Receiver Percy Harvin is back practicing with the Seahawks.

Seattle just isn’t saying how much he is practicing. Not when coach Pete Carroll answered questions from reporters on Thursday afternoon, and not even after the Seahawks finished practiced and released the injury report.

Harvin wasn’t on it because he’s not yet been added to the active roster, which means there’s no clearer picture on the likelihood Harvin will play on Monday night in St. Louis.

“We’re just going one day at a time,” Carroll said when he answered questions before practice. “We’ll keep saying it because really that’s the truth. It’s a day-to-day, almost drill-to-drill kind of situation to see if we’re managing him properly to bring him back.”

Harvin began training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list with a hip injury that ultimately required surgery. He underwent the procedure on Aug. 1 in New York, and has been recovering since. He began practicing with the team on Monday, and Seattle now has a three-week window in which he can be added to the roster.

Seattle can wait as late as Sunday before adding him to the 53-man roster and have him eligible to play in Monday’s game. The team did not indicate the extent to which Harvin practiced Thursday, and the team’s guidelines prohibit reporters from disclosing what was observed on the practice field.

Carroll himself never specified exactly what Harvin was expected to do during practice.

“I can’t even tell you that because we’re not updated on that,” Carroll said.

So is it realistic to think Harvin could play Monday?

The biggest question facing the Seahawks this week became no clearer Thursday.

“It would be great to see him play this weekend,” Carroll said, “but that’s not part of what we’re counting on. We just want to see what happens today and see if we can get through it, and then go to tomorrow and find out and take in information and try to make a really good decision.”

Notes

• LB Bobby Wagner is coming back from a high ankle sprain, and he worked out but was limited.

• Three members of the team did not practice: FB Derrick Coleman (hamstring), OT Breno Giacomini (knee) and S Jeron Johnson (hamstring).

• WR Golden Tate, who was limited Tuesday because of a sore shoulder, was fine at practice Thursday.
