Russell Wilson has just one season left on his current contract with the Seahawks, but according to Jake Heaps of 710 ESPN Seattle, Wilson and the Seahawks have started to engage in talks about an extension.

“I can confirm both with sources on the Seahawks’ side of things and through on the other side with Russ’ camp, contract negotiations have been active,” said Heaps, who was filling in on John Clayton’s 710 ESPN Seattle show on Tuesday along with Stacy Rost. “They have started becoming more active as of late.”
Heaps, who spent time with the Seahawks in 2016 and 2017 and serves as the director of operations and head QB coach for Wilson’s RWQB academy, said the negotiations have started perhaps sooner than expected.
“We’ve all been anticipating June and July (to hear about negotiations), but they’ve actually become more active than what all of us have anticipated. Now how active they are and where they’re at in those negotiations, I’m not sure. I don’t know how far along they are, but I know they’re active.”
Heaps and Rost continued to discuss how important a new long-term deal with Wilson would be for the Seahawks’ future, a conversation which you can listen to in the player embedded in this post or download in podcast form at this link.
