The snow was a day too late in Seattle for there to be a white Christmas, but by arriving early Sunday morning it at least gave the city something it had seen even less in its history: a home Seahawks game in snow.

The Seahawks’ Lumen Field was overtaken by the winter storm that dumped snow on the region Sunday, meaning the 1:05 p.m. game between the Hawks and Chicago Bears took place in snowy conditions.

Seattle home games in snow are an especially rare occurrence, having happened only twice before. The first came in 2006 against the Green Bay Packers, and that was followed two years later in a meeting with the New York Jets. The Seahawks were a perfect 2-0 in home snow games until the Bears came back late Sunday to upset Seattle 25-24.

The one wild card for Sunday’s game was the fact that the Bears traditionally are more accustomed to playing in wintry weather.
