The Mariners have recalled infielder Luis Sardinas from Triple-A Tacoma and optioned Chris Taylor back to the Rainiers.
Sardinas will take over at shortstop in the absence of Ketel Marte, who was placed on the disabled list after suffering a sprained left thumb on Saturday. Marte isn’t expected to be out much longer than the required 15-day stint on the DL.

Taylor was initially brought up to take Marte’s place, but he had a rough showing in his one start Monday, committing two errors and striking out with the bases loaded in a 5-0 loss to Oakland. He was used as a pinch runner in Tuesday night’s 6-5 win.
The 23-year-old Sardinas began the season with Seattle, hitting .154 with a home run in 12 games before being optioned to Tacoma on May 15 to create a roster spot for utility player Shawn O’Malley. He performed well with the Rainiers, hitting .406 with four RBIs and two stolen bases in eight games.
