Welcome to our series where 710 ESPN Seattle host emeritus Dave “The Groz” Grosby looks back at a memorable Seahawks game from this week in history. With the Hawks entering Week 4 undefeated for the first time since 2013, Groz sets his sights on where the team was at this point in their Super Bowl-winning season.

Sept. 29, 2013

Everyone of course remembers the magic ride the Seahawks gave us in 2013, but it’s the Week 4 game against the Texans that may have given us a window into how special that year was going to be.

Hawks’ pass rush woes, Aldon Smith’s 3-sack day raises tough question

The Seahawks opened with three straight wins before heading to Houston to deal with a 2-1 Texans team that had gone 12-4 the year before. It seems like a good test but young Matt Schaub and the Texans were ready.

After spotting the Seahawks a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, Houston scored 20 unanswered in the second quarter and knocked Michael Bennt and K.J. Wright (temporarily) from the game. The Seahawks forced a fumble late in the third quarter and recovered on the Texans’ 21 but couldn’t even gain a yard, and the game headed into the final quarter with the Texans holding a commanding two-touchdown lead.

The Seahawks scored on their first drive of the fourth quarter and forced a three and out, putting the team in position to tie the score, but a rare fourth quarter Russell Wilson interception seemed the give the Texans life as they moved into Seahawks territory.

Enter Richard Sherman with and electrifying pick-six to tie the game (watch here), which the Seahawks won in overtime 23-20.

The game was a crossroads for the two teams. For the Seahawks it was the first 4-0 start in franchise history (as opposed to a 3-2 start since they lost the following week to the Colts), putting them well on their way to Super Bowl glory. For the Texans, it was the start of a 13-game losing streak on the way to 2-14.
