Huard: Did Seahawks accomplish enough with championship window? ‘Unequivocally, yes’

Five years ago, the Seahawks put on one of the most dominant performances in Super Bowl history, holding the NFL’s top-ranked offense, led by future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, to eight points.
Today, just eight players remain from that Super Bowl XLVIII roster.
Two of those players – defensive end Cliff Avril and strong safety Kam Chancellor – are battling serious neck injuries sustained during the 2017 season. If either is cut, retires, or begins the year on the PUP list, that would leave just six active players from Seattle’s Super Bowl-winning team: Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, Earl Thomas, and Jon Ryan.

Now that the Super Bowl core is mostly dismantled, Brock Huard and Mike Salk wondered: did the Seahawks “underachieve” during their championship window?
Despite critics, fans, and a few players, who might suggest otherwise, Huard believes the Seahawks accomplished more than enough.
“I know there’s a huge contingent that feels like they underperformed, and that they did not get the most out of this group,” Huard said. “And now that Richard (Sherman) is gone, now that Michael (Bennett) is gone, and now that so many of these pieces have moved on, that they underperformed. And I just say to that: No. They didn’t. They had the greatest run in the history of this city in sports.
“I’ve been a Mariners fan, been a Sonics fan, been a Husky football fan, been a Seahawk fan. I got to play for the Seahawks for four of my six years in the NFL. This was the best run this city has ever seen. Double-digit win season after double-digit win season after double-digit win seasons. Two Super Bowls, nearly two titles, and one in particular in one of the most dominant fashions. I just can’t sit here and say they underachieved. I can’t do it. So to me, I will answer that unequivocally yes. They lived up to the expectations, and they gave us the greatest run we’ve ever known in this city.”
