Four-time All-WNBA defender Ezi Magbegor suffered a torn anterior crucial ligament (ACL) in her right knee Wednesday while playing for Australia during the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and will miss the remainder of the WNBA season, the Seattle Storm announced Thursday.
Magbegor sustained the injury during the first quarter of Australia’s 82-80 win over Italy.

In a statement, Basketball Australia said Magbegor’s injury will require surgery.
“The Australian Opals will wrap their arms around Ezi and we have no doubt in her character and resilience as she enters a period of recovery,” the statement said.
This is the third time Magbegor has dealt with an injury this year and the second time it was a result of playing for Australia. She missed the first 20 games of the season after injuring her foot playing in the World Cup qualifiers. Four games after returning, she suffered a facial fracture.
The injuries have limited the 6-foot-6 forward to 14 WNBA games this year. She was averaging 6.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 blocks per game.
Because of the timing of Magbegor’s injury, she is likely to miss time during the 2027 season, as well.
The Storm (8-32 record) have four games remaining this season when the WNBA resumes play following the World Cup break. They return to play Thursday, Sept. 17, with a home game against the Las Vegas Aces.
