4 Seattle Storm players make rosters for FIBA World Cup teams

The Seattle Storm will have a quartet of players competing in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which is set to begin Friday and continue until Sept. 13 in Germany.

Dominique Malonga, France

The breakout forward was a first-time All-Star this season and is 14th in the WNBA with 17 points per game – and is still a few months from her 21st birthday. Malonga is tied for sixth in the league with 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, and also averages 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 26.5 minutes.

Malonga is shooting 48.2% from the field and 75.9% on free throws, and has made 20 of 71 attempts on 3-pointers (28.2%).

Seattle selected the 6-foot-6 Malonga with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft out of France. She played three games for France in 2024 in the Paris Summer Olympics.

Awa Fam, Spain

A 6-4 center, Fam has shined as a rookie with the Storm. She is averaging 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.8 blocks in 27.6 minutes per game, making 45.1% from the field, 83.3% from the line, and 35.5% on 3-pointers (49 of 138).

The 20-year-old Fam was picked No. 3 overall out of Spain by the Storm in this year’s WNBA Draft.

Ezi Magbegor and Jade Melbourne, Australia

The Storm are sending a center/guard combo to the Aussie team.

The 27-year-old Magbegor is a one-time All-Star and has earned WNBA All-Defensive first or second team honors four times. In 14 games this season, she is averaging 6.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 blocks over 20.4 minutes per game. Magbegor played three games for Australia in each of the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

A 6-6 forward/center, Magbegor missed the first 20 games of the season with a right foot injury she suffered playing for Australia in March in the World Cup qualifiers. The 12th overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft by Seattle, Magbegor also missed time due to a broken nose and concussion symptoms after taking an elbow to the face in July.

The 24-year-old Melbourne is in her fourth WNBA season and second stint with the Storm, who drafted her in 2022. The 5-10 guard is averaging 9.5 points, 3.9 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 25.1 minutes per game, shooting 44.2% from the field, 77.9% on free throws and 30.4% on 3-pointers (31 of 102). She played three games for Australia in the 2024 Olympics.

Seattle Storm at a glance

The Storm are 8-32 this season, which puts them in last place in the 15-team WNBA. The league is on a break until mid-September for the World Cup, with Seattle returning to play its four final regular season games starting Thursday, Sept. 17 at Climate Pledge Arena against the Las Vegas Aces.
