Tyran Stokes of Rainier Beach, nation’s top recruit, commits to Kansas

Rainier Beach High School star Tyran Stokes, the top-ranked senior basketball recruit in the nation, is headed to Kansas.

Stokes made his highly anticipated commitment on Tuesday, announcing the news on ESPN’s NBA Tip-Off.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound small forward chose the Jayhawks over Kentucky and Oregon.

Stokes is the consensus No. 1 recruit in the nation for 2026 high school class, according to 247Sports, ESPN and On3.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Stokes spent his first two high school seasons at Prolific Prep in Napa, California. He then transferred to Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, for his junior season before transferring to Seattle’s Rainier Beach for his senior campaign.

Stokes led Rainier Beach to a 29-1 season, capped by a dominant run through the Class 3A bracket last month to claim the program’s 11th state title. At Rainier Beach, he played alongside freshman phenom JJ Crawford – the son of former 20-year NBA veteran and Seattle native Jamal Crawford.
