Seattle Kraken scoop up ex-Vancouver Canucks GM for front office

The Seattle Kraken have made an interesting addition to their front office: Patrik Allvin, who was fired as general manager of the rival Vancouver Canucks less than two months ago.

The Kraken announced Thursday morning that the 51-year-old Allvin has joined the team as a vice president and assistant GM, joining Ricky Olczyk, Alexandra Mandrycky and Ryan Jankowski as front office members with a vice president/assistant GM title.

“As we continue to review our hockey operations this offseason, I’m excited to have Patrik join the team,” Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said in a press release. “He’s a three-time Stanley Cup Champion, GM of the Year runner-up and someone I worked with closely for many years in Pittsburgh. I believe Patrik is a great fit to help us build long-term success, bringing an extensive hockey network and many years of leadership to our group.”

Allvin and Botterill worked alongside each other for 10 years with the Pittsburgh Penguins, which included Stanley Cup wins in 2009, 2016 and 2018. Allvin spent 16 seasons total with the Penguins mainly in scouting roles, though he was promoted to assistant GM in 2021 and had a brief stint as interim GM in the same year. Allvin was Canucks GM from 2022-26, making him the first Swedish GM in NHL history, and he finished second in voting for the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year award in 2023-24.

Allvin was let go by Vancouver in April after the Canucks finished last overall in the NHL with a 25-49-8 record.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to join the Seattle Kraken organization,” Allvin said. “There is a strong commitment to building a winning team and a passionate fan base, and I look forward to collaborating with Jason and the hockey operations staff as we continue building a club capable of sustained success.”

The Kraken also announced Thursday the addition of Pascal Vincent as an assistant on second-year head coach Lane Lambert’s staff.

The 54-year-old Vincent most recently was head coach for the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens’ American Hockey League affiliate. He has 28 years of coaching experience, including assistant roles in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets from 2011-16 and Columbus Blue Jackets from 2021-24.

“I’m thrilled to have Pascal join our staff,” Lambert said. “He comes to our organization with a great deal of knowledge, having been a head coach and an assistant coach at all levels. His experience and track record developing young players and working with veteran players will be a great asset to our organization.”
