Wyman & Bob react to Seahawks’ Terrion Arnold signing

Cornerback Terrion Arnold, who was released by the Detroit Lions earlier this summer after being arrested on eight felony charges in connection to a robbery and kidnapping, is signing with the Seattle Seahawks, according to multiple reports on Thursday.

ESPN Seahawks reporter Brady Henderson said he expects it to be a one-year deal for the minimum salary.

Prosecutors allege that Arnold, 23, orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men whom he wrongly suspected of stealing luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from him, according to The Associated Press. Arnold, a 2024 first-round draft pick, has pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations through his representatives.

Shortly after the news broke, Bob Stelton and former NFL linebacker Dave Wyman shared their reaction on Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob. Both expressed confidence in Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald, whom they believe have earned the benefit of the doubt.

“Mike Macdonald has established a very strong culture here and he doesn’t deviate,” Stelton said. “And I don’t think he’s going to let anybody, regardless of what their ability is, come in here and potentially disrupt what they’ve already built.

“I’m putting all of my belief and faith in the fact that they did all of their due diligence and feel good about it and are ready to answer the questions about it.”

Wyman echoed that sentiment.

“Mike is a very no-nonsense guy – don’t hurt the team, everything is about the team,” Wyman said. “I’ve never seen anybody emphasize the players and the team more, … (with) the way that Mike seems to pay attention to the relationships.

“He spends a lot of time in building the team,” he added, “so why would he just go, wow, this guy, man, can you imagine having him opposite of Devon Witherspoon? That would be really cool. My defense would be great. I just don’t see that happening.”

The Seahawks have several people in their building with ties to Arnold through Alabama, where he spent his three college seasons from 2021-23.

Karl Scott, the Seahawks’ defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach, was involved in recruiting Arnold while he was Alabama’s defensive backs coach from 2018-20. Seahawks third-string quarterback Jalen Milroe and cornerback Josh Jobe were both teammates of Arnold’s at Alabama.

The latest “Hard Knocks” episode captured Schneider telling Macdonald that Milroe had strong praise for Arnold.

“These guys aren’t doing this on a whim,” Stelton said. “They’re flipping over every rock. They’re looking under every rock and every detail they can. What is this kid facing? Is he guilty? What’s the real story behind the scenes?

“And if they’re gonna commit to it and know that they’re gonna get some blowback, I think they feel that they’ve got some conviction about that move. I’m gonna trust that they did their due diligence.”

Stelton added that the expected low-cost nature of Arnold’s deal would make it easy for the Seahawks to quickly move on from him if things don’t go as expected.

“I don’t worry about his impact in that locker room, because I think if there’s any whiff of negativity or this guy is not fitting in and he’s not right, it’s done,” Stelton said.
