Uchenna Nwosu on Seahawks’ rivalry with 49ers: ‘None of us like them’

The rivalry between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers is never lacking for intensity, but Seahawks outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu is doing a pretty good job this week of stoking the flames.

‘Dark Side’ adds to Seattle Seahawks’ legacy of stellar defenses

First, Nwsou raised some eyebrows on Monday when he showed up in the Instagram comments of star 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, who just had his practice window opened with the hope that he could return from injured reserve if the 49ers made it past the Seahawks on Saturday to reach the NFC Championship – or perhaps even as soon as the game in Seattle.

“The road ends here,” Nwosu wrote.

Nwosu downplayed the comment, with The Seattle Times reporting that Nwosu said Warner is “my guy for real” as the two 29-year-old linebackers have known each other going back to their days as high school football standouts in southern California.

While that may have been a playful jab aimed at a friend, Nwsou made it clear Wednesday on Seattle Sports that he doesn’t think fondly of the 49ers in general – and he said he’s not alone with that in the Seahawks locker room.

“I don’t like the 49ers. I’m just straight up with it. I don’t like them. None of us like them. We shouldn’t like them,” Nwosu said on The Huddle, a weekly two-hour live show from Seahawks headquarters.

The Seahawks finished the regular season with a 14-3 record, and they beat the 49ers in Week 18 in a winner-take-all game to clinch the NFC’s top seed in the playoffs and Seattle’s first NFC West title since 2020. It was especially meaningful for Nwosu, who is in his fourth season with Seattle.

Seattle Sports’ Stacy Rost asked Nwosu if the chance to knock out the 49ers this weekend makes things any sweeter.

“Absolutely. Especially being my time here, just the back and forths we’ve had going back to 2022 when they was beating us, you know,” Nwosu responded. “So now we’re a bigger and better team, stronger, faster, more together, more connected and everything. So just can’t wait to get out there and show it on Saturday night.”

Nwosu said “nothing goes unnoticed” between the Seahawks and 49ers, but he also said that the rivalry isn’t getting in the way of the Seahawks taking care of business this week.

“We’re just ready for this opportunity. Everybody’s mindset’s on the right path. Practice has been good all week. Everybody’s been attention to detail in the meetings, so we’re ready to go out there and show it.”
