Super Bowl: Seahawks activate LB, place OT on injured reserve

The Seattle Seahawks have made a notable change to their roster just five days before the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

Linebacker Chazz Surratt has been activated from injured reserve, while offensive tackle Amari Kight has been placed on IR.

Surratt was at the end of his 21-day window to be activated from IR after being designated to return to practice on Jan. 13. A valuable special teams player who began his college career as a quarterback at North Carolina, Surratt suffered an ankle injury coming out of a Nov. 23 game.

The 28-year-old Surratt has 11 combined tackles in 11 games this season for Seattle. Prior to joining the Seahawks in 2025, Surratt broke into the NFL as a third-round NFL Draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 and spent the following three seasons with the New York Jets. He also spent time last summer with the San Francisco 49ers.

Kight had not practiced since suffering a knee injury while filling in at left tackle in Seattle’s NFC Divisional Round playoff win over the 49ers on Jan. 17. An undrafted rookie from Alabama and Central Florida, Kight is a third-string option for the Hawks’ offensive line. He appeared in four games in the regular season.

Seattle has had a worrisome situation at left tackle with starter Charles Cross having dealt with either a hamstring, knee or foot injury since mid-December. Guard/tackle Josh Jones, who is Cross’ backup, has also had ankle and knee issues that have prevented him from playing in the playoffs. Cross and Jones were both limited in practice last week but did not have game designations on an estimated injury report, signaling they should both be ready to go for Sunday’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff in the Super Bowl.

Radio coverage of the Super Bowl on Seattle Sports will begin with the Seahawks Radio Network pregame show at noon on Sunday. Seattle Sports 710 AM, KIRO Newsradio 97.3 FM and the Seattle Sports, KIRO Newsradio and official Seahawks apps will be the only places where you can hear Steve Raible and Dave Wyman call the Super Bowl.
