To make room on the practice squad, Seattle released undrafted rookie nose tackle and “Hard Knocks” star Uso Seumalo for the second time this month. The Seahawks initially released Seumalo from their practice squad on Sept. 3 before re-signing him to the practice squad last week.
Smith, who went undrafted out of UCLA, spent the offseason with the Las Vegas Raiders and was on their practice squad before being released ahead of the season opener. He totaled 111 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and two passes defensed over a five-year college career that spanned two seasons at Duke and three seasons at UCLA.
Seumalo, who went undrafted out of Kansas State, was featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series that profiled the Seahawks during training camp. Seumalo has an interesting backstory, having grown up on the small Hawaiian island of Moloka’i. He also was spotlighted in May by Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard as a Seahawks undrafted rookie to watch.
Tuesday’s practice squad moves come after nose tackle Brandon Pili missed Seattle’s loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday after being ruled out with a concussion and a neck injury.
