Brock: An undrafted Seahawks rookie to watch

After retaining all but a handful of players from their Super Bowl-winning team this offseason, it’ll be even more difficult than usual for an undrafted free agent to crack the Hawks’ 53-man roster this fall.

But of the seven undrafted rookies who recently signed with the Seahawks after the NFL Draft, one name to keep an eye on is Kansas State nose tackle Uso Seumalo.

During Monday’s edition of Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard highlighted the 6-foot-3, 330-pound Seumalo as an undrafted rookie who stood out to the Seahawks at rookie minicamp this past weekend.

“He was one that I think made a pretty strong first impression on quite a few people around there,” Huard said.

While growing up in Hawaii, Seumalo played basketball and volleyball in high school before convincing his parents to allow him to play football as a senior in 2019, according to his Kansas State bio.

Seumalo then played two seasons at Garden City Community College in Kansas before transferring to Kansas State, where he totaled 57 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and five pass breakups over his four seasons with the Wildcats.

As a senior in 2025, Seumalo posted a career-high 20 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and two pass breakups.

The Seahawks have one of the best and deepest interior defensive lines in the NFL, headlined by Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II, Jarran Reed and promising second-year pro Rylie Mills.

That means Seumalo would likely be competing with fellow interior defensive linemen Brandon Pili, Mike Morris, Bubba Thomas, J.R. Singleton and rookie seventh-round draft pick Deven Eastern for a potential back-end roster spot or two.

“He’s kind of like a Brandon Pili – that Brandon Pili run-stuffing, nose tackle,” Huard said. “You know that has a role in this scheme and in this system.”
