Seattle Seahawks reunite with veteran tight end; CB waived

The Seattle Seahawks are bringing veteran tight end Nick Vannett back into the fold.

Vannett signed with the Seahawks on Friday, the team announced. To make room on the 90-man roster, the Seahawks waived cornerback Tyron Broden.

The move comes a day ahead of Seattle opening training camp at team headquarters in Renton.

Vannett was picked by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He played in 42 games for Seattle from 2016-19 before being traded during the 2019 campaign to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to Seattle and Pittsburgh, Vannett has played for the Denver Broncos (2020), New Orleans Saints (2021-22), New York Giants (2022), Los Angeles Chargers (2023), Tennessee Titans (2024), Minnesota Vikings (2025) and Los Angeles Rams (2025) over his 10-year NFL career.

The 6-foot-5, 266-pound Vannett played 10 games with one start combined between the Vikings and Rams last season. He did not register a target in 55 offensive snaps. He also played 76 snaps on special teams.

Vannett’s most productive offensive season was in 2018 when he caught 29 of 43 targets for 269 yards and three touchdowns with Seattle. More recently, he had a solid showing in 2024 with Tennessee, hauling in 17 passes on 20 targets for 135 yards and three scores in 17 games, 10 of which he started.

Broden switched positions from wide receiver to cornerback this offseason. At 6 foot 5, he would become the tallest CB in NFL history if he takes a snap at the position. The Seahawks placed Broden on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Monday. He finished last season on the practice squad/injured list with an undisclosed injury.
