Roster move: Seattle Seahawks release veteran running back

Four days after the Seattle Seahawks used their first-round NFL Draft pick on running back Jadarian Price, they have cut a veteran at the position.

The Seahawks announced Monday that they have released Cam Akers, who Seattle signed in November.

The release of Akers frees up some room for the Seahawks on their 91-player offseason roster ahead of their rookie minicamp this weekend.

The 26-year-old Akers is a six-year NFL veteran and now a two-time Super Bowl champion after contributing for Seattle during the 2025 season. With the Seahawks, Akers appeared in three regular season games as well as the NFC Championship against his former team, the Los Angeles Rams. He played 10 offensive snaps and 23 special teams snaps combined for the Seahawks between the regular season and playoffs.

Akers was a second-round pick by Los Angeles in 2020 out of Florida State, and he became a key player over his first three pro seasons. Akers rushed for 625 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie, and had a career-high 786 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022. He played just one game in 2021, however, which was the season the Rams won the Super Bowl.

Akers has twice suffered season-ending Achilles injuries, the last time being in 2023.

Prior to coming to the Seahawks, Akers spent time with the Minnesota Vikings in each of 2023, 2024 and 2025, and also had a stint in 2024 with the Houston Texans.

In addition to Price, Seattle’s running back room currently includes George Holani, Kenny McIntosh, Jacardia Wright and Emanuel Wilson, as well as Zach Charbonnet, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in January.
