Seahawks rule out Cross, Bryant vs Panthers

The Seattle Seahawks ruled out left tackle Charles Cross (hamstring) and safety Coby Bryant (knee) for Sunday’s Week 17 road matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Cross will miss his second straight game after injuring his hamstring while blocking on Jason Myers’ game-winning field goal against the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 14. He hasn’t practiced since the injury.

Bryant injured his knee in the fourth quarter of Seattle’s overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 18. He also was sidelined from practice this week.

No other Seahawks received game status designations on Friday’s injury report, which means every other player on their active roster is considered healthy enough to play on Sunday.

However, the Seahawks will also be without edge rusher Derick Hall, who is serving a one-game suspension for stepping on the leg of Los Angeles Rams guard Kevin Dotson in last week’s NFC West showdown.

Prior to last week, Cross had started 62 of 65 games at left tackle since Seattle selected him with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The only games he missed came while dealing with a toe injury in 2023.

Veteran swing tackle Josh Jones will start in place of Cross for the second straight week, head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed to reporters on Friday. Jones, who signed a one-year deal with Seattle in March, played well in last week’s victory over the Rams, posting a 75.9 Pro Football Focus grade that was the highest among the Seahawks’ five offensive linemen.

Third-year safety Ty Okada will fill in for Bryant, Macdonald confirmed. Okada saw significant time earlier this season while filling in for safety Julian Love, who missed nine games due to an injury. Okada has totaled one interception, six pass breakups, 1.5 sacks and two tackles for loss in 15 games. He ranks 30th out of 99 safeties in PFF grading.
