Seahawks injury report includes good and bad news
Sam Darnold was a full participant for the first time since his Week 1 injury, but a new issue held Julian Love out of practice.

The Seattle Seahawks’ injury report featured some encouraging news and some not-so-encouraging news Thursday.

The good was that quarterback Sam Darnold appears to be trending towards making his return this Sunday when his team faces the Washington Commanders.
A day after he returned for his first practice since suffering a glute injury on the first drive of the season opener, Darnold on Thursday was a full participant in Seahawks practice for the first time since the injury. Darnold had been a limited participant when he returned to practice Wednesday.
Darnold told reporters before Thursday’s session that he’s “feeling good” and “really striving” to play Sunday.
The bad was that standout safety Julian Love suddenly appeared on the report due to a calf injury that held him out of practice. He was not included on Wednesday’s practice report.
Seattle has already been playing down one of its starting safeties through the first two weeks as fourth-year pro Ty Okada has dealt with a hamstring issue. Okada did not participate in practice Thursday for the second straight day.
Seattle is also down rookie safety Bud Clark, a second-round pick who is out for the season after breaking his ankle during the preseason.
Rodney Thomas II, who was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad Wednesday, started the past two games in place of Okada and appears to be in line to make his third straight start against Washington.
Thomas, Nick Emmanwori and A.J. Finley are currently the only healthy safeties on Seattle’s 53-man roster, though Emmanwori plays more of a hybrid role than as a traditional safety.
In other injury news for the Seahawks, rookie running back Jadarian Price was limited for the second straight day Thursday with a chest injury suffered during their 31-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.
Several Seahawks also saw their statuses upgraded in addition to Darnold. Running back George Holani (neck), fullback Brady Russell (chest), wide receiver Cooper Kupp (back) and linebacker Ernest Jones IV (neck) were each full participants a day after being limited. Nose tackle Brandon Pili (concussion, neck) also took a step forward as a limited participant a day after he was held out, though the neck injury was a new addition to the report.
