Seahawks make 4 trades during NFL Draft, double class to 8

The Seattle Seahawks may have hung onto their first-round pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, but that didn’t stop them from doubling the size of their class from the four picks they entered Thursday with.

Seahawks general manager and president of football operations John Schneider made four trades – one on Friday and three on Saturday – to get Seattle’s list of new players up to eight in the draft in Pittsburgh.

Three of the deals saw the Hawks move back to gain an extra pick, and another saw them dip into their 2027 draft to get into the fifth round.

Schneider said on Monday the Seahawks wanted to get a few more bites at the apple than they had at the time.

“It’s no secret with us,” Schneider said in a pre-draft press conference. “We have four picks, so we’ll be looking to move back.”

That was taken to mean the Seahawks would look to move back from the No. 32 overall pick, the last of Thursday’s first round. Seattle didn’t do that, instead selecting Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price, but Schneider did say Thursday there was some consideration to trading out of the first round.

“We thought he had some opportunities for a minute. Fell apart,” Schneider said after the first round. “A lot of trading going on right ahead of us, but I mean, (Price) kind of stood alone. Great player.”

With the Seahawks’ trades, they avoided coming up with the second-smallest draft class of Schneider’s 17 drafts with Seattle. The Hawks made just three draft picks in 2021.

Friday

• Seahawks trade No. 96 (third round) to Pittsburgh for No. 99 (compensatory third round) and No. 216 (sixth round).

Saturday

• Seahawks trade 2027 fourth-round pick to Cleveland for No. 148 (fifth round).

• Seahawks trade No. 188 (sixth round) to New York Jets for No. 199 (sixth round) and No. 242 (seventh round).

• Seahawks trade No. 216 (sixth round) to Green Bay for Nos. 236 and 255 (seventh round).

Where they came from

A few of the Seahawks’ picks took circuitous routes to ending up in Seattle’s possession.

The No. 148 pick in the fifth round, which Seattle used on Iowa guard Beau Stephens, was originally a Kansas City selection that went through the Browns to Seattle.

The No. 199 selection in the sixth round, where Seattle selected Kansas wide receiver Emmanuel Henderson Jr., went through a whopping five teams. It was originally was the Detroit Lions’ pick and passed through Cleveland and Cincinnati before landing with the Hawks.

Finally, Seattle’s No. 242 pick initially belonged to Buffalo and went through Cleveland and the Jets.

Why did the Seahawks have just four picks going into the draft?

Their original fourth-round (No. 132 overall) and fifth-round (No. 172) picks went to New Orleans in the 2025 trade for wide receiver and return man Rashid Shaheed. The Saints took Auburn guard Jeremiah Wright with the fourth-rounder and Ohio State safety Lorenzo Styles Jr. in the fifth.

Seattle also sent its original 2026 seventh-rounder (No. 248) along with center Nick Harris in a trade with Cleveland in August 2024 for the No. 188 overall pick in the sixth round of this draft. That No. 188 pick is the one Seattle sent to the Jets to move back in the sixth round and add a seventh-rounder Saturday.
