The rubber match is set for the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.

Just two weeks after the Seahawks beat the 49ers 13-3 to clinch the NFC West title and No. 1 seed for the playoffs, Seattle will host San Francisco in the divisional round of the playoffs next Saturday. Kickoff will be at 1:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. The start time and TV details will be announced following Monday’s AFC wild card game between the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers.

How Schneider built Seattle Seahawks back into a title contender

The sixth-seeded 49ers beat the Eagles 23-19 in the wild-card round on Sunday. Since they were the lowest-seeded NFC team to advance, they earned the right for a trip to Lumen Field.

The other side of the NFC bracket will feature second-seeded Chicago Bears hosting the fifth-seeded Los Angeles Rams. The Bears trailed 21-3 at halftime before pulling off a wild fourth-quarter comeback to beat the Green Bay Packers 31-27 on Saturday. The Rams outlasted the Panthers 34-31 in the wild-card round on Saturday.

Seahawks vs. 49ers matchup history

The Seahawks and 49ers are set to meet in the playoffs for the third time. They last met during Seattle’s most recent playoff berth in 2022, a 41-23 San Francisco win in the wild-card round and the final postseason game of longtime coach Pete Carroll’s decorated tenure with the Seahawks. They also faced off in the 2013 NFC championship game when the Seahawks won 17-14 on Richard Sherman’s tip and Malcom Smith’s game-sealing interception in the end zone in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

The NFC West rivals opened and closed the season against each other this year. The 49ers took the opening bout 17-13 in Seattle as quarterback Brock Purdy led a game-winning, 68-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks used a suffocating defensive effort and held San Francisco to its fewest points (three) and total yards (173) in a game under ninth-year coach Kyle Shanahan during a 13-3 road win to clinch the NFC West title and No. 1 seed in the regular season finale.

Seattle is 2-2 against San Francisco under second-year coach Mike Macdonald.
