The Seahawks announced the move Wednesday after it was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
To make room for Gaskin on the practice squad, the contract of running back Khalil Herbert was terminated.
Gaskin, a Lynnwood native who attended Seattle’s O’Dea High School, is in his seventh NFL season. He’s rushed for 1,354 yards and seven TDs while averaging 3.7 yards per carry over his career. He also has 712 receiving yards and six TDs on 102 receptions.
“Dream come true, but I’m just here to help this team doing anything I can,” Gaskin said Wednesday before the Seahawks’ practice, per Seahawks.com. “I showed up late, so I’m kind of running behind, got to learn the plays. But I’m able to take this in for what it is, but right now at this moment, just trying to figure out this playbook as fast as I can.”
The 28 year old was a seventh-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2019. He spent his first four pro seasons with the Dolphins before stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings the past two years. He was with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2025 preseason.

Gaksin’s best years as a pro came in 2020 and 2021. In 2020, he totaled 972 yards from scrimmage (584 rushing, 388 receiving) with five TDs on 183 total touches. In 2021, Gaskin amassed 846 yards from scrimmage with seven TDs on 222 touches.
He also has some experience in the return game, which includes three kickoff returns in his five games with Minnesota last season.
Gaskin is UW’s all-time leader in career rushing yards (5,323), rushing TDs (57), yards from scrimmage (5,788) and total TDs (62).
He rushed for over 1,200 yards and at least 10 TDs in all four seasons with the Huskies, led the Pac-12 with 21 rushing TDs and 24 total TDs as a junior in 2017, and he helped the Huskies reach make their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance in 2016.
Gaskin was just the second player in FBS history to record 1,200 rushing yards in four straight seasons.
The Seahawks signed veteran Herbert to the practice squad and placed undrafted rookie running back Jacardia Wright on the practice squad injured reserve last week.
Seattle is tied for first place in the NFC West at 3-1.
