The franchise announced Wednesday the Seahawks’ all-time leading tackler has become the first active NFL player to have equity in a WNBA team.
“It’s an honor to join the Seattle Storm ownership group and support a franchise that has consistently set the standard in women’s professional sports,” Wagner said in a release from the Storm. “This is about more than basketball, it’s about investing in a legacy of excellence, empowering women, and continuing to elevate the game for future generations.”

Wagner, who’s entering his 14th pro season, spent 11 seasons in Seattle, including his first 10. He was elected to eight straight All-Pro teams and Pro Bowls as a Seahawk from 2014-21, earned both honors again when he returned in 2023 and helped the franchise wins its only Super Bowl title in 2014. In total, Wagner is an 11-time All-Pro and 10-time Pro Bowl selection.
Now with the Washington Commanders, Wagner leads all active NFL players with 1,838 career tackles. He’s ranks in fourth place all-time and is just nine tackles from tying Hall of Famer Junior Seau for third place.
Wagner is well known for his charity work and community service in the Seattle area. He was the Seahawks’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee in 2019 and 2023, becoming just the sixth player in franchise history to earn two nominations, and was the Commanders’ nominee last season.
Wagner is joining the ownership group of a Storm franchise that has been one of the WNBA’s most successful teams since its debut season in 2022. The franchise is tied for the WNBA record with four league championships and has made 19 playoff appearances over 25 seasons.
“Bobby is a hometown hero who has had immeasurable impact on the Seattle community,” Storm co-owner Lisa Brummel said. “He shares our desire to grow the game and knows the value and importance of investing in women’s sports. As we continue to build on the incredible legacy of the Storm franchise, we are excited to add Bobby’s experience and expertise to the mix.”
