Seahawks’ Jon Ryan experiences the life of a stand-up comedian

The Seahawks punter is known as a wacky, quirky guy, but he's not even the funniest member of his own household.

While Russell Wilson famously spent his bye week riding horses on Mexican beaches, his teammate, Jon Ryan, spent his time off in a decidedly different climate.

“I went to a beautiful place called Cleveland, Ohio,” Ryan deadpanned on “The Huddle” Thursday. “It was equally as gorgeous.”

The Seahawks’ punter is known as a wacky, quirky guy, but he’s not even the funniest member of his own household. Not even close. His time in Cleveland was spent promoting a book tour with his fiancé, Sarah Colonna, a stand-up comic who has written one New York Times bestselling comedy book and was a regular with E!’s talk show “Chelsea Lately.”

Ryan said he joined Colonna on the road during the offseason for the better part of three months, watching her make a crowd full of strangers laugh.

“It’s so much different than what we do on the road,” Ryan said. “Being a comic, you perform at night. It’s completely different from what we do. You’re sleeping in until 11 or 12, you’re working out and then you’re grabbing dinner and happy hour at 3 in the afternoon. She performs and then we’re grabbing dinner at like 1 in the morning. You just do that day after day. You’re doing the same things you normally do, in a way, but you’re just doing it a lot later in the day.”

Ryan, who is in his eighth season with the Seahawks, said the football lifestyle is much less lonely than that of a comic.

“When she’s on the road, she’s on her own,” he said. “When we’re on the road, we have 100 other people with us and we have things like curfew and stuff that are no fun. But it’s a lot different lifestyle.”

Based on some recent videos, Ryan might be ready to get in on the act.
