Seahawks Insider: Jarran Reed making a case for most improved Seahawks

Jarran Reed cut out pork and reduced how much beef he ate in an offseason regimen that allowed him to come back as the most improved member of the Seahawks.

Jarran Reed still has beef.

Just once a week, though. A nice steak.

He also cut pork out of his diet, which is tough for a man from North Carolina who admittedly loves bacon. All part of an offseason regimen that has helped make Reed the most improved member of the Seahawks through the first six games of this season.

Seahawks Spotlight: Jarran Reed, Oct. 18, 2017

“He had a fantastic offseason,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “He just got more fit and stronger, in great shape, which means he put a lot into the offseason. He followed that up with a really good connection to the workload, and the details and doing things right and growing and being consistent.”

Reed was more than just consistent on Sunday at New York. He had seven tackles, the most important being his strip sack of Eli Manning in the fourth quarter.

It wasn’t just that game, though. Reed was a big part of the defensive push against the Rams in Week 5. In fact, it was Reed who pushed Los Angeles guard Rodger Saffold back into quarterback Jared Goff, forcing a high throw that was picked off by Earl Thomas.

Reed was a second-round pick out of Alabama, and while he wasn’t able to hold onto his starting job a year ago, he has put down roots in this second season and become very difficult to move.

“He’s a legit starting defensive tackle in the NFL in just two years time,” Carroll said. “He got cranking. He’s a very responsible, tough kid, and he’s worked and he’s doing things right and we love him. He’s doing everything we want.”
