Bruce Irvin is noticeably larger this season, but it’s not from devouring Big Macs.

“It’s a big year for me, I can’t be eating no McDonald’s,” Irvin said on 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Brock and Salk” on Tuesday morning. “…I feel like it’s time for me to take it to the next step. I was a first-round draft pick a couple years ago and I feel like I’ve gotten better and better, but I feel like it’s time to take it to the next level.”

The fourth-year pro said he added some bulk in the offseason.

“I just wanted to feel stronger,” he added. “Playing 245 (pounds), 247, I didn’t feel as strong dealing with 300 pounders every week, so I am like 263 now and I feel very strong and the biggest thing is I still can move with it.”

Whether it was the extra weight, the fact that Irvin was suspended in 2013 due to a failed drug test for performance-enhancing drugs, or both, apparently the league noticed the change.

“I got tested nine times this offseason,” he said. “They think I’m juicing man. But I always say, you can always test me, but you can’t test for hard work.”

Irvin said that in his heart he is a defensive linemen, a position he can “take my thinking cap off and just play,” but he thinks he’s become a “pretty good linebacker.”

As for his key for success this year, he wants to develop more consistency.

“I have those games, those couple weeks: Bruce gets the two sacks, then Bruce comes back and gets the pick-6,” he said. “Then next week, ‘Where’s Bruce?’ That’s the biggest thing for me. I wanted to be accounted for every week.”
