Salk: Leonard Williams is a superstar, and we don’t talk about it enough

We have a superstar right here in Seattle, and we hardly ever talk about him that way. And I think it’s about time that changes. Hopefully this year it will.

Seattle Seahawks’ Leonard Williams ranked NFL’s No. 1 DT by ESPN

His name is Leonard Williams. He’s sometimes known as the Big Cat. He even has a cool nickname.

And he is, at least according to all of the various executives, coaches and scouts that ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler polled, the No. 1 defensive tackle/ interior defensive lineman in the NFL.

And guess what? He plays all across the defensive line, even on the edge at times too.

You’re talking about the No. 1 player at one of the most important positions on the field. If I was ranking NFL positions, quarterback is one, and then for me, it’s either D-end or D-line. And I think I could make you a pretty compelling case it’s D-line.

So, Leonard Williams is one of the best players in the NFL – period.

He is a superstar-level player. He was the best defensive player on the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks.

And oh, by the way? He’s a delightful human. He’s awesome. Every conversation you have with the guy is great. He’s a renaissance man. He loves spearfishing. He’s married to Ronnie Lott’s daughter. He’s a smart dude.

Like, there’s nothing about Leonard Williams I don’t like.

The only problem is we don’t seem to talk about him that much. We need to make a commitment – all of us, together – to remember to talk about our superstar here in Seattle.

As much as I love some of the other guys who have worn that mantle – and Cal Raleigh certainly played like it last year – the biggest superstar in Seattle today is Leonard Williams.
