We’ve put together his three top takeaways in this post, which you can read below. You can also hear the full segment, which kicks off this podcast of the show’s third hour from Monday.
Salk’s Seahawks training camp takeaways
1. This team is deep.
“They are really, really deep. And that might not always show up at training camp. In the exciting world of superstars, that’s one of the reasons they don’t get talked about a ton all over ESPN and NFL Network and all the other places where people are discussing football. But they are so much deeper than most of the other teams – maybe all the other teams they’ll play.
“A few places where it really stands out just watching: offensive line. Defensive line – my God. The edge, if you want to separate that out. The tight end group. If you include (fullback/tight end) Brady Russell in the tight end group, they’ve got at least four tight ends, maybe five.”
2. A feeling all their own.
“It did not feel at all like it did in the (Legion of Boom) years. I just want to be clear, that’s not a bad thing, but the vibe, the buzz is not in any way similar. It is a totally different feel, I think, going over to training camp. It’s more chill. The players are more chill. The music is more chill. It honestly feels more like a team at work than a team that was, like, putting on a show at times – not in a bad way. I’m not trying to insult the LOB, but it always felt like a show when you’d go down there. This just felt like a team at work.”
3. A running back to watch.
“The person that jumps out just watching (the running backs) is Emanuel Wilson. Every time there was like, ‘Oh, that was a good run. Who was that?’ It’s Emanuel Wilson. I was standing with Hawk Blogger, Brian Nemhauser. He’s big on Wilson also. Just every time I saw a nice run, that’s who it was. It was Emanuel Wilson. He is low to the ground, built like a bowling ball. He runs hard. He’s physical. … I see more of that Natrone Means, Maurice Jones-Drew kind of look.”
