Seattle Seahawks left tackle Charles Cross underwent surgery to repair a dislocated finger, but is expected to be ready for the season opener, according to multiple reports Thursday morning.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported that Cross dislocated a finger on his right hand and was practicing through the injury in training camp with his pinkie and ring finger taped together. But after his finger became dislocated again, the 24-year-old Cross opted for surgery with the expectation that he’ll be ready for Week 1, according to Henderson.

The Seahawks open at home against the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 7.

Veteran swing tackle Josh Jones filled in as Seattle’s first-string left tackle at training camp on Tuesday and Wednesday, per Henderson.

Cross, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been a rare bright spot in recent years along the Seahawks’ oft-criticized offensive line.

Cross tied for ninth out of 81 tackles in Pro Football Focus grading last season, including 13th in pass block grading and 16th in run block grading. He also received high marks from ESPN, ranking 16th among tackles in pass block win rate.

It continued a steady upward progression for the 6-foot-5, 311-pound Mississippi State product, who ranked 54th among tackles in PFF grading as a rookie and 38th while playing through a toe injury in 2023.

The Seahawks picked up the fifth-year option on Cross’ rookie deal in April, which means he’s set to remain in Seattle through the 2026 season.
