You know what the Seattle Seahawks are going to do? They’re going to sign Devon Witherspoon.

I know this is not exactly breaking news. We’ve known they’re going to get the three-time Pro Bowl cornerback extended for a while just because of how well he fits and how important he is to this defense, and how much head coach Mike Macdonald loves him.

But it was just striking yesterday when I had the opportunity to go to Seahawks practice and I didn’t see Spoon right away. That made me a little nervous. I guess he wasn’t participating in some of the team portions of the drills, and I was like, are we’re looking at the beginning of some sort of holdout type of thing?

And then I heard him.

Because as it turns out, you hear Devon Witherspoon long before you see him. He is loud, he is energetic, and he is uncontainable when he’s out there. The guy just loves ball.

So maybe he doesn’t want to go full go right now because he doesn’t want to get hurt before signing what could be the biggest deal for a cornerback in league history. But he can’t help himself because of how much he loves the game.

He was sitting with a couple of other guys watching a drill 80 yards away from another shell drill that was going on behind him, and when one of his guys, Julian Neal, picked off a ball, he couldn’t help but start screaming from 80 yards away.

A few minutes later, rookie Michael Dansby had a pick. Spoon got up and ran all the way to the other field because he just needed to be a part of the celebration.

Why is Devon Witherspoon going to be a part of this thing long term for the Seahawks? Because he and Mike Macdonald see the world the same way, and they both love ball.
