Marshawn Lynch causes a stir at Pete Carroll’s Raiders press conference

Pete Carroll has officially been introduced as the new Las Vegas Raiders head coach, holding a press conference on Monday morning.

And there was a familiar face in the crowd. Or maybe we should say a familiar voice.

Present to support his former Seattle Seahawks head coach was Marshawn Lynch, himself a one-time Raiders running back from the days when the team was still based in Lynch’s hometown of Oakland. It appears the move to Vegas five years ago hasn’t stopped “Beast Mode” from being passionate about the Raiders.

As Carroll spoke about wanting to get more of a local fan presence at games at Allegiant Stadium to cut down on opposing fans taking up space in the building, a voice shouted “RAIIIII-DERRRRRS!”

That voice belonged to Lynch, according to Nick Walters of KTNV in Las Vegas, although that was not immediately apparent.

After the outburst, Carroll had a comical response.

“There you go. There you go. That’s what I’m talking about. Hey Mark, settled down a little bit,” Carroll quipped.

Mark, presumably, would be Raiders owner Mark Davis.

Carroll has joined Las Vegas on a reported three-year deal with a fourth-year option for the team. The move comes after he spent a year away from coaching following the Seahawks moving him out of their head coach position last winter. Carroll spent 14 years as Seattle’s coach, leading the most successful period in team history that included back-to-back Super Bowl appearances and a championship. Those highlights came when Lynch was the Seahawks’ primary ball-carrier out of the backfield.

Lynch spent six seasons with Seattle before retiring after the 2015 season. He returned to the league in 2017 with the Oakland Raiders, appearing in 21 games over the next two seasons, and had one last brief comeback with the Seahawks in two games in 2019, helping out Seattle in a playoff run after the team suffered multiple injuries at the running back position.
