Brock Huard: Seahawks’ loss to Commanders ‘is going to sting’

Sometimes football is complex and sometimes it’s a pretty simple game. When you turn the ball over three times, as the Seattle Seahawks did in Sunday’s 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders, I’ve got to start and finish there. You’re just not gonna win when it’s minus-3 in the turnover column.

But I think just as big of a deal, and I’m sure we’ll talk about this Monday on The Mike Macdonald Show, is the Seahawks also just could not run the ball effectively. I think the early fumble for Jadarian Price was a bummer for him psychologically. Washington did give up a ton of yards in the air and had been prone to that all season long, but the inability to really establish that run, control the game, and then to give up the rushing yards, especially late to the Commanders, it’s going to sting. It’s going to be a long flight home.

It’s a reminder that it is so hard to win in the NFL, especially when you just give the ball away consistently. And that last interception from Sam Darnold is one that he’s going to kick himself about. I don’t think he predetermined his throw, but he certainly did not do enough work with his eyes to see where those defenders were on the pick-6 touchdown.

It’s a bummer. It was a fun run of 12 in a row – a lot of happy Mondays. Tomorrow will be on the other side of it. A lot to learn from for a team that’s got to find a way to run the ball more effectively, a team that’s got to find a way to protect the ball consistently, and to find a way as a team next week to get back on the horse against the Chargers.
