Brock names Notre Dame RB Jadarian Price his top Seahawks draft fit

Brock Huard nailed it a year ago when he identified offensive guard Grey Zabel as the player the Seattle Seahawks should take with their pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.

That’s what the Seahawks did, and Zabel started every game in the team’s Super Bowl-winning season, including the playoffs.

If Huard gets it right a second year in a row, that will mean the Seahawks will land Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price with their top pick in the draft that starts Thursday night.

Price was the last player featured in a draft profile by Huard on Thursday’s edition of Brock and Salk, and like Zabel a year ago, Price has been heavily speculated as the fit for the Seahawks in the draft. A big reason for that is the Seahawks have the need at running back, because Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III left in free agency for the Kansas City Chiefs and Zach Charbonnet is expected to miss much of next season after suffering an ACL injury in the divisional round of the playoffs in January.

The other big part of the equation?

“As the market conditions have kind of unfolded, it’s clear for a running back, there’s two (strong options) and the third is bronze medal way, way, way far away,” Huard said.

The first of those strong options at running back is actually Price’s teammate at Notre Dame, Jeremiyah Love, who could be one of the first names to come off of the board on Thursday night. But even though Price was technically the No. 2 behind Love for the Fighting Irish, he’s not your typical backup.

“We know that he’s got three kickoff return touchdowns, two of them 100 yards, a Notre Dame record,” Huard said. “… We know about the 4.49 40 and he’s rocked up like you wouldn’t believe. … He’s bright, he’s charismatic, he’s got juice. And according to (FOX college football and NFL Draft analyst) Joel Klatt, he thinks he can contribute right away.”

Speaking of Klatt, here’s what he had to say to Brock and Salk about Price.

“I think Jadarian Price is incredible,” Klatt said. “In high school, he rushed for 5,000 yards and 55 touchdowns. He tears his Achilles as a freshman in college, which is one of the reasons why Love kind of beat him out initially, and all he did was go out there and become one of the most versatile, best running backs in the country. Didn’t complain, didn’t transfer. Loyal guy, home run hitter, two 100-yard kickoff returns. He can impact your team with the football in his hands right away.”

Klatt isn’t the only draft insider who feels that way. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah was asked in a conversation with Brock and Salk to compare Price and San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson as fits for the Seahawks’ top pick.

“I would take Price, and I like Johnson a lot. But I would take Price because they’re very similarly graded,” Jeremiah said. “I have them stacked very close on my list, and one is an obvious position of need (for the Seahawks). … Price is my 34th player (ranked in the draft class), Chris Johnson is my 35th player, so I have them right next to each other. And I just think Price has more of an impact on (Seattle) trying to get back and win the Super Bowl. So that’s where I would go.”
