Sometimes, there’s a tendency for championship teams to fall into complacency and ease their foot off the gas.

That certainly doesn’t appear to be the case with the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Seahawks Injury Updates: Charbonnet, Horton and more

On multiple occasions this spring, head coach Mike Macdonald has praised his team’s attendance and buy-in over the course of the offseason program, which was voluntary up until this week’s mandatory minicamp.

Former NFL linebacker Dave Wyman said last week on Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob that the intensity and execution at recent OTA practices was “really noticeable” and that there’s been “absolutely no drop-off” in the team’s approach.

Former NFL quarterback Brock Huard, who watched Wednesday’s minicamp practice at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, echoed that sentiment with an interesting nugget Thursday morning on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk.

“From some folks in the know, this is the leanest, highest muscle mass and lowest body fat team that they’ve seen around there in a long time,” Huard said. “And it speaks to nearly 100% participation, guys believing in the process and the proof of concept of development over there.”

Huard specifically mentioned wide receiver Jake Bobo and fullback/special teams stalwart Brady Russell as two examples.

“Jake Bobo is freaking ripped,” Huard said. “Like, that dude is not what he was three years ago coming out of UCLA. He’s probably added 10, 15 pounds of like lean muscle mass. He looks tremendous. … Brady Russell, that’s not the same guy that I saw as a former walk-on at Colorado five times in college. Like, that just doesn’t even look like the same person anymore.

“And you only get that by truly being disciplined, going to work and having the attention to detail. And they got it. … Like, hey man, if you buy into what we do, if you will do what others have done here, you’ve got a chance to truly develop and still change in your 20s in dramatic ways. And a bunch of them have.”
